Blaenavon World Heritage Day – Important Road Closure Information

Blaenavon is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors for World Heritage Day, a celebration of our town’s rich industrial past and vibrant community spirit. As part of the event, several temporary road closures and traffic diversions will be in place to ensure public safety and allow festivities to run smoothly.

Here’s everything you need to know to plan your journey:

📍 Which Roads Are Affected?

A number of roads in the town centre will be closed for the day. These include:

  • Broad Street

  • Ivor Street

  • James Street

  • Parts of Lion Street and surrounding areas

These closures are clearly marked in red on the event’s official traffic management map.

🔁 Diversion Routes

To help keep traffic moving, a series of diversion routes have been mapped out and are marked in green. These routes guide drivers safely around the closed areas and back onto the main roads surrounding Blaenavon.

Please follow signage on the day and be mindful of local residents and pedestrians as you travel through the area.

🚍 Public Transport

Some bus stops within the closure area will be temporarily relocated. Please check for signage at your usual stop or speak to event staff or marshals, who will be happy to help direct you to the nearest alternative.

We recommend allowing extra time for your journey if travelling by bus.

🅿️ Parking and Access

Dedicated event parking is available at designated sites around the town. Stewards will be on hand to guide visitors and ensure access for emergency vehicles and residents.

If you’re attending the event, please consider walking or using public transport wherever possible.

🎉 Let’s Celebrate Safely

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while these road closures are in place. Blaenavon World Heritage Day is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy live entertainment, local food, and family-friendly activities — all in the heart of our historic town.
